Yeah, I absolutely love my tube coffee maker. It's noticeably warmer and more full than solid state. But then, I also wouldn't be without my analog toaster.

Best,
Tom

hey guys!

i didn't bother opening a new thread for this, cos it's just a quick question.....

can i just unwire one of my aux pots on an m470a and use it for an output gain control?

i know it's not the 'right' kind of pot, but it'd be ok right??

the reason i ask is, my preamps are SWEET but if i use the pad, i can hear a slight buzzing..

i do have the fader simulating resistors wired in, but they're still far too hot to use on overheads for example and an output gain would go a long way....

also, don't have room on my face plate for more knobs as you can see,

i wired echo send on the auditronics modules as output gain control and it worked a charm!
i get the feeling they sound better driving quite hard with the output gain turned down, but i wanted to check with the pros about the m470a first..

you can use an Aux, but I would use the Right output and use the pas knob instead.  either will work. but the Pan uses dual elements (so +ve and -ve have their own contact) where the aux have a single one

as well, there should be a 15db pad in place where the fader goes, not just a jumper.

looks nice btw

I'm not a fan of XLRs on the front... I'd put the line / DI in on the front... "but that's, like, my opinion man"

thanks for that!

i have to be honest with you, i'm not a fan of front xlrs either, but i only have a small setup and it's more convenient this way, for now.

ok, so, regarding the fader, i wired up 240 ohm resistors as per a guide on this forum..

pan knob sounds like a plan!! i like that.

i'm currently wired to p2c and p23 for direct out,
but 'm lookin at the scematics, and it seems like you'd wire master 2 output for right?
is that correct?

also, is there i difference in impedance? or is it just gona be the same as direct out?

thanks again.

you are correct to come out of M2

R112 and R113 would need to change from 15K to 75  as it's meant to go to a summing buss

have fun.  and remember, if it sounds good it is good

ok,thanks very much for info. i can't tell you how much i appreciate it...

you know. i bought these preamps for £45 each cos i wanted somethin to solder/mess with/learn from...

absolutely astounded by the sound of them!

and so far, they've managed to have better customer support than most current/big firms! lol.

cheers.

stupid question perhaps, but is it 75ohm or 75kohm?

thanks again.

**edit. if i'd just looked at the schamatic instead of thinkin out loud, i wouldn't have had to ask! sorry!
